Pleasant Home - Straughn Advance

The Straughn Lady Tigers and Pleasant Home Lady Eagles continue to Montgomery this week for an opportunity to win their classification's State Championship. 

The Eagles will try and return to the Championship game for the second consecutive year, but will face a new opponent if they can succeed after 1A #1 Millry defeated last year's Champs, the Kinston Lady Bulldogs.

Andalusia falls to Dadeville

The Lady Bulldogs shut down Dadeville the final 5 innings, but a four run first put Andalusia in a hole to big to climb out as Dadeville advances to the final round tournament in Montgomery beginning Thursday... Sporting News on Program23

Pike County's football coach resigns

One of the most successful football coaches in the area with 5 State Title to his credit has tendered his resignation as head football coach at Pike County High School.  The Coach will remain on at the school....  sporting news on Program23


2nd Round - Softball Action

Pleasant Home will be the only remaining team that has to travel as the Lady Eagles head to Ariton on Saturday and face the Lady PurpleCats beginning at 12:00 Noon.  The biggest 1A game could be just down the road as Last Year's State Champ Kinston Bulldogs take on current #1 Millry beginning at 3 on Friday.

Straughn and Andalusia will remain at home this weekend and have an inside track to make the State Tournament in Montgomery as the host the 2nd round contest.

The Lady Tigers will host Montevallo with the first game at 1:00 PM, while Andalusia will host Dadeville at 1:00 PM.

The winners will advance to the State Tournament in Montgomery - May 15-17.

Other local teams still alive with Kinston... 2A Samson will host Cottonwood and Luverne will host private school power American Christian (Tuscaloosa).  In 3A, Elba will host West Blocton and in 4A Ashford will travel to Childersburg.  Dothan will host Daphne in 6A. 

New Coach for Andalusia?

Rumors are abound that first year coach Heath Harmon has submitted his resignation to Andalusia High School Principal Daniel Shakespeare.    Sources close to the Bulldog Football program have confirmed that one year after former head coach Tom Causey departed for Demopolis current Head Coach Heath Harmon is headed to White Plains.

Tennis
(Andalusia's Barlow captures individual State Title)

The Opp Lady Bobcats finished sixth and the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs finished eighth - mostly on the success of number one seed Sarah Catherine Barlow.  Barlow won the coveted Girls No. 1 Bracket by defeating St. James' Kat Jackson 6-1, 6-7 (7-3), 6-2.   More on Andalusia Tennis
