Back to basics

Though most of the county got to relax on Monday, there was no rest for
the weary as the Andalusia Bulldog's hit the practice field for the first
time since opening the season with a loss to Pike County.
Despite the fact that the team had a lot to work on, head coach Tom Causey
said that the practice went well.
"Practice went real good on Monday," Causey said. "The guys worked well as
a team and they were real physical and focused out there."
Andalusia did exactly what Causey said they couldn't afford to do against
Pike County, turning the ball over six times. Even if you happen to cough
up the football against a bad team this can be a problem, but against Pike
County, it can lead to a 32-7 loss.
The team had worked hard over the summer and in preseason practice to
vanquish the turnover bug from their system and Causey says that the
coaches will just have to keep on preaching fundamentals.
"Just like last week, we have to work on fundamentals," Causey said. "Not
only do we need to take better care of the football and make the correct
reads, but we need to wrap up and make tackles.
"Pike had 193 yards after the initial hit," he said. "Not to take anything
away from them, because they are a great team, but we should have made
those tackles."
Though there were some strong performances, most notably from Ledarrius
McNeil, who rushed for 109 yards on 17 carries and scored Andalusia's only
touchdown, the team as a whole made too many mistakes that Causey says
were of the mental variety.
"We called plays that put guys into the position to make the play, but it
just wasn't executed," he said. "Mental mistakes are tough because they
can be hard to correct. There isn't much the coaches can do but keep
reppin the plays and hoping that the guys start picking them up."
Andalusia had five fumbles in the game, only managing to recover one. Pike
County didn't hold on to the football too well either, fumbling three, but
had luck on their side, as they were able to recover two of them.
Two more Andy turnovers came from interceptions.
