Coach Jack Whigham is excited about the
Bobcats first early game in almost 30 years with the Bulldogs.
This match up has both teams undefeated in region play and after an
impressive comeback against Alabama Christian - Opp may have a little
more confidence. However, it will take more than confidence to
stay on the field with the Bulldogs.
Andalusia "is the best team we will face all
season" says Whigham. "We will have to play a perfect game.
I know we are going to get after it and will be competitive - I just
hope we can stay on the field with them."
Last week Ledarrius McNeil ran for 262 of the 509
Bulldog yards in the region 2 St. James
Trojans. Matt Mellown and Michael Berry connected in the air as the Bulldogs
pulled away 43 - 17 victory. Coach Whigham had a lot to say
about the Bulldog team "they could have the best time I've seen from
Andaluisa in 15 years - I'm not sure we can contain [Ledarrius] McNeil
and [Matt] Mellown has been running that Offense for 4 years - I'm not
sure their is anyone better at picking up the defense and running the
option".
Opp will counter with a young team - much
like Coach Causey's arrival four years ago at Andalusia, Whigham is
having to build a program that went 1-9 last year. "Coach Causey
has done a great job at Andalusia" said Coach Jack Whigham "he has
build up one of the top programs in the state".
Coach Causey has high praise for Coach
Whigham himself, "Opp has a great coach and they are going to be well
prepared. We can not afford to turn the ball over and make
mental mistakes".
You could write the same things about both
teams the first two games. Game one had both playing smaller
schools with traditionally strong programs - Pike County (Andalusia)
and Luverne (Opp) defeated the rivals - where they turned the ball
over 6 and 7 times apiece. Week two had both teams traveling to
Montgomery where they both took control in the second half and came
away with victories.
Expect an exciting game - with some small
scale intensity of an Alabama/Auburn match-up. It should be
close early, but Senior talent of Mellown, McNeil, DeAndre Wright and
Junior RB Berry should pull away.
