Florala vs. Ariton

Football HOME

Before the season began this was a game circled on the Florala Wildcats schedule.  The Ariton Purple Cats return 12 seniors to a team that went 8--3 in 2005

This year the Purple Cats lost their first game to undefeated 2A Wicksburg (Newton, AL) 24 - 31, then defeated region foe - Zion Chapel 23-13.

Offense… Florala has a stable of running backs and welcomes the return of Senior RB Ro Williams who missed last week due to an injury received in the season opener against Headland.  Ro had 4 touchdowns in the jamboree game against Samson - though 2 were called back for penalties.  Ro also brings back much needed experience within the secondary on defense.

Ariton also features several strong running backs including senior Justin Masters (#5).  #5 is joined by 22, 23 as established and quick runners to perform duties in the double Wing-T employed by Head Coach Julius Head.

Defense… Senior Kyle McCoy leads the team in tackles, but juniors Danny Bise and TJ Fleming are players opposing quarterbacks should be concerned about.  TJ had two game ending interceptions that helped seal the victory for the Wildcats.

Ariton runs a 50 Defense and although senior rich - a sophomore LB (40) Ty Tyler will create concern for opposing offenses - fast and strong.

Coaching – Florala is fortunate to have a seasoned head football coach at the 1A level.  Arlton Hudson's return is the reason the 'Cats are 2-0 at this point.  Hudson and his staff have the Wildcat's believing and ready for play.  Although injuries have taken a toll over the first two weeks, the coaching staff continues to change around their game plan.

The Purple Cats have been lead by Julius Head for several years....  Over the past few years they have grown this team to a competitive region power.  The Cats have back to back to back 8-3 seasons and continue in the same path as previous years.

Which team wins?

Wildcats

OVERALL – the Wildcats have played well for 6 and a half quarters.  Exclude the first half against Providence Christian - and The Wildcats have outscored opponents 40 - 20.  Which team shows up for Florala will have a lot to determine who wins the game.  Ariton will run the ball similar to Providence meaning the Wildcats will have to penetrate the O Line to take Ariton out of their game.

Ariton has more seniors and more experience and plenty of talent running the ball.  Could be the fastest backfield the 'Cats have seen.... While Headland was strong - Ariton is fast and strong.

The Wildcats need to control the tempo and hold on to the football - If QB Taylor Benton can locate his tight end - and the TE can hold onto the football - the Wildcats could open up the run for a long successful night.
