Track Finals
The Alabama High School
Athletic Association's 2007 Track & Field Meet is scheduled for
Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th at Troy University and the
Wildcats will be there. Florala is quietly building a possible Track
Powerhouse school with their continued drive.

Last week Florala attended the sectionals in Tuscaloosa and send
notice across the state that the Wildcats could be a team to reckon
with at the State Meet. The Wildcats swept most of the events they
entered and the boys 4x100 team qualified for state and breaking
last years State title mark by almost 1 second.
DeAndre Lewis finished first in the boys 100m dash at 12.04 and
junior Deandria Smith's Long Jump placed her third in the sectional
with a mark of 13.01 feet. Another jump at that distance in the
preliminaries on Friday could place Smith in the finals on Saturday.
Katie Carroll has been the surprise for Coaches Joy Colvin and
Evans. The junior qualified for state in the 800m run with a time of
2:59.92. "Katie is doing great" said Evans, "we're working on her
counting her steps and making longer strides throughout e ach
lap". Carroll's time would have put her in the finals last year, as
well.
It is no secret that senior Liz Ferman is the track member who
garners a lot of attention. In Tuscaloosa Ferman placed first in the
100m dash (13.77), first in the 200m dash (27.84), and second in the
400m dash (1:07). Liz could finish in the top three in each of those
events although her first place 400m time last year was 1:02.29.
Junior Tayaka Davis finished second in the 100m dash at 14.13.
All that being said - the best opportunities for the Wildcats track
is the 4x100 relay. Both the boys and girls finished in first place
in the sectional and could create quite a stir with a Wildcat sweep
of the coveted event.
The girls finished at 54.15s. and the boys finished 44.61s. Last
years the Wildcat boys finished second in the AHSAA state finals -
running 45.27 behind the Alabama School for the Deaf who won at
45.12.
The Florala Track Team could use your support at this years events
held at Troy University. The Field Events begin Friday at
approximately 9:30am with the Javelin with Preliminary track at
10:30. The track finals are Saturday May 5th
