Wildcat Offensive
Line
KEY TO STATE RUN
Last season was a
difficult year for returning Coach Arlton Hudson, expectation was
high, but injury after injury determined the Wildcats fate early. This season injuries could play a
critical
part
of the Wildcat success - especially to an understaffed Offensive
line. However, the Wildcats
are loaded at position players - QB TJ Fleming, WR Danny Bise, FB/TB
Reggie Gundrum - add Calvin Mulkey, David Bass, OJ Chambers, Stephon
McLaughlin and there are plenty of options on offense.
The area of concern is
the offensive line and the depth after the starting group.
Although the bench is an option size is not - the Wildcats will have
6'6 340 senior Dominique Moore, 5'10 200 senior Jarred Martin
(center), sophomore 6' 250 Zach Taylor, and senior Cliff Goolsby who
all have playing time at the down position. The problem is
health and depth for Hudson.

Senior Dominique Moore (77) and sophomore Zach
Taylor (70)
The Wildcats are really
one or two players from having a solid offensive front with an
ability to play and rest individuals. "It is a little
difficult to play a team like Opp that may dress 70 players and
we've got 20" said Hudson. "Our young men are use to going
both ways, but having one or two injuries will create another [year
like 2006]".
Senior Levi Hughes will
give Hudson one option, along with junior Evan Robbins who showed
great improvement during the spring, but once you've added those two
players there aren't any backups. It would be great if school
started with 3 or 4 new transfers - but a couple players will still
have to step up. The "downline" support is critical for the
'Cats to maintain their #7 ASWA ranking. If that support comes
- scoring will not be an issue.
With Bise and Mulkey the
Wildcats could have two of the best 1A position players in the
state. Bise is a D1 prospect drawing notice from Troy
University and Mulkey lead the team in interceptions and is drawing
notice as a cover corner.

Moore (#77), Taylor (#70) and
senior Jarred Martin (52)
will be counted on for front line support...
However the piece that
is missing - Offensive lineman. That could be the difference
in heading to Birmingham or reaching another second - third round
contest. If Hudson can solve that one area of concern, the
Wildcats could have their first ever football championship.
