Red Level loses game and players
Flomaton 50,
Red Level 8
It is hard to find words to
explain when a Helicopter takes off from a football field transporting a
player to the hospital. That's the feeling parents and players from
both teams saw after the game when a Red Level Tiger was flown to
Pensacola.
"We got together as
a team and prayed for that young man" said Flomaton Coach Doug
Vickery. Coach Tim Grime s
said Saturday morning that "after a cat scan there were no
internal injuries". Red Level also saw Terrance Marshall
taken away in an ambulance for a shoulder injury (negative) and
several players on the sidelines nursing injuries.
"I knew [Vickery]
had the right combination going into the game" said Grimes.
"The better football team won - we'll just roll up our sleeves
get to work and hopefully - we'll be the better football team."
After hearing
rushing stats - it is hard to believe the difference in the
score. Flomaton rushed for 228 yards while Red Level had
237 rushing. "[Hurricanes] ran one kickoff back and we
punted into our up-back once - Red Level is still searching for
an identity and right now we're not a very good football team"
said Grimes.
Coach Vickery had
other thoughts - "[Tigers] had several missed opportunities
against Straughn - and injuries could have been a factor tonight
- they also had [Lamar Caine] on the sideline not dressed out -
but they're a good football team. I was concerned after
watching them on film - we just played our hearts out and got
some good breaks"
Vickery is use to
building programs - turning around Florala and building Flomaton
in two years - starting the season 2-0 in 2A region 1. "I
told [Program23] earlier this year that Flomaton was going to be
good - they might be the team that beats Leroy" said Grimes.
Grimes concentration
now is on Red Level - "We're in a situation that Red Level
football isn't accustomed to - we don't hunt excuses here -
we'll work hard and get ready for [Keith]".
