Andalusia vs. #1 Alabama Christian

The Lady Bulldogs faced two top ranked teams yesterday afternoon and split.  First losing to #1 4A Alabama Christian, but following up with a 9-1 win over #2 1A Pleasant Home. 

ACA took the field first against Andalusia and quickly proved their number one ranking shutting the Bulldogs down on offense and pushing across runs in their first two innings to take 2-0 lead after four.  ACA scored in the fifth and seventh innings and didn't allow Andalusia a run 

Paige Caraway did pitch a great game for the Lady Bulldogs, but had little run support to assist her as she tossed all 7 inning striking out 5 and allowing 2 earned runs.  Caraway dropped to 4-5 on the season.

Andalusia vs. 1A #2 Pleasant Home


After falling to 20-14 on the season earlier in the day, the Lady Bulldogs took back the field against the #2 1A Lady Eagles of Pleasant Home and had difficulty getting the bats started again. 

Both teams went into the third inning battling out to get a run across when the Eagles Erin Byrd stepped to the Plate.  The junior would have the teams lone score after a homerun gave Pleasant Home a 1-0 advantage. 

Morgen Battey allowed only one more hit for the Buldogs striking out 9 and picking up her 16th win of the season. 


Anna Henderson went two - four at the plate with a  double and 2 rbi's,  Battey and Holley Bass also went 2/4 with Bass driving in a run.  Caraway and Jessica Centner went two for three during the day.

Andalusia swamps Jeff Davis

The Lady Bulldogs moved their season record into the twenties with Thursday's swamping of Jeff Davis 28-0.  Andalusia ended the game after five innings scoring 23 runs in their final two innings. 

Morgen Battey took control on both sides of the ball (offense / defense) - tossing 2 hits over five innings.  The senior moved to 15-9 on the year allowing 2 hits and recording 8 strikeouts on four innings work.  Paige Caraway pitched 1 inning allowing 2k's.

Batty also went 4 of 5 at the plate and had 5 RBIs.  Anna Henderson 2/2 3 bb 4 runs 1rbi and Ellie Pollock 1/1 4 rbi's bases loaded walk and bases loaded double.  Holley Bass 2/4 4 runs 1 rbi

Bulldogs fall to 2A Samson

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs were cruising into the sixth inning holding a convincing 3-1 lead until Samson scored three unearned runs in the sixth to gain the victory over the 4A Bulldogs. 

Morgen Battey (14-9) recorded the loss for Andalusia although allowing only 1 earned run.  The senior had 7 strikeouts allowing 6 hits in the contest.

Jessica Centner had 1 run and batted .500 for the day.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up their fourth straight win to move to 16-10 on the season.  The 2-1 victory over Troy was also Andalusia's third straight one run victory and their second by the same score.  (Schedule)

Paige Caraway move to 4-3 on the season pitching 6 innings allowing 7 hits and recording 6 strikeouts (K's).  Morgen Battey came into the game in the seventh to pick up her first save of the season and went 2/3 at the plate.

The Bulldogs defense has stepped up with the playoffs just around the corner and committed no errors with several "gems" in the one run game. 

Charles Henderson took the lead in the top of the fourth and threatened to extend the lead compiling four hits in the inning. 

The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an Anna Henderson (1/2) RBI.  Andalusia took the game when Marqueasia Tyson scored on an error by the Troy leftfielder in the 6th.  Tyson had entered the game as a runner for Caraway.

Andalusia moved to 15-10 on the season after an exciting game over the Straughn Lady Tigers.  The Bulldogs opened with back-to-back walks as Halie Burnette and Anna Henderson were on for Morgen Battey's RBI single.  Battey, who also picked up her eleventh win of the season, went the distance giving up 3 hits, recording 10 strikeouts and no earned runs.

The Lady Tigers tied the game in the fourth as Wiggins reached on an error.  She would steal second and later scored on an RBI double by Messick. 

Straughn had Andalusia shut down through five innings until A.C. Riley got on with a seventh inning double.  Burnette would drive in the evidential winning run with a single. 

Big Win over 1A Bulldogs

Andalusia High School moved to 13-10 after a rough weekend against upper classification schools and the schedule didn't get any better because of dropping to 1A.  Perrenial Power Kinston took on Andalusia as they prepare to defend their 1A State Title.

Anna Henderson, Morgen Battey, Paige Caraway each singled and scored runs. A.C. Riley doubled and Marqueasia Tyson scored as a courtesy runner. D'Amber Chambers and Jessica Centner also had hits.

However, it was Caraway on the mound controlling the game and picking up her third straight win.  Kinston scattered 8 hits, but Caraway struck out 8 in route to the Andalusia Bulldog victory.

Bulldogs struggle with Upper Teams

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs have built a winning record this season, but not from playing upper classed teams.  However that could be to Andalusia's advantage when the playoffs begin. 

Andalusia fell to Enterprise and Wetumpka over the weekend and currently stand at 12-10 while playing 5A and 6A schools twelve times this season. 

We've played a really tough schedule this season" said Coach Sasser concerning the Lady Bulldogs upper opponents - "We have to play better defensively down the stretch."

Andalusia has been ranked in the ASWA poll all season.

Lady Bulldogs defeat Greenville

Andalusia picked up, according to Coach Sasser "a good sound win" against the 5A Greenville Lady Tigers yesterday.  It was special in several ways, but number one is the Lady Bulldog seniors have never lost to Greenville. 

Paige Caraway could have established the Bulldogs with two solid pitchers now as she struck-out 7 and allowed three hits as the Bulldogs rolled to a 10-0 victory in five innings. 

Anna Henderson scored twice and drove in two runs going one for three from the plate.  Brittney Pitts was two for three with an RBI and a run scored. 

Jessica Centner added a double and Caraway helped her own cause with an RBI and two hits.  A.C. Riley also picked up a hit. 

Andalusia improves to 12-7 on the season.

Eagles top Bulldogs

Andalusia and Pleasant Home battled in another close contest as the Covington County powers played to a 3-2 Eagle victory.

The Bulldogs tried to comeback on the Eagles who took a 3-0 lead on Andalusia starter Morgen Battey.  The senior went the complete game in the loss, but recoreded 12 strikeouts 4 hits 3 unearned runs and dropped to a personal 9-4 record.

The Bulldogs were lead by Jessica Centner (2/3 double 1 rbi) and
D'Amber Chambers (2/3 1 rbi).  Paige Caraway had a double and a run scored in the loss.  Anna Henderson, Halie Burnette, and Brittney Pitts all picked up hits for the Bulldogs who fell to 11-7 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs moved to 9-5 on the season earning their ninth win over a vastly improving Lady Tigers.  Straughn continues to gain confidence playing ranked opponents  and fell 2-1 to the top 10 4A team. 

Straughn scored on an unearned run in the third to tie the game 1-1 before the Bulldogs took back the lead in the fourth adding to their third inning score. 

Anna Henderson's RBI single in the 4th was the difference as the senior went two for three from the plate. 

A.C. Riley gave the Bulldogs and early lead with a sacrafice fly in the third. 

 Morgen Battey pitched a complete game giving up 4 hits with 7 k's to move to 8-3 on the year.


Lady Bulldogs Pick up Win
Andalusia Lady Bulldogs picked up a big win over Donelson Christian Academy from Nashville, TN; 2-0.  Andalusia improved to 8-5 on the season and Donelson dropped to 1-1. 

Morgen Battey picked up another win giving up 5 hits and striking out 12.  Battey helped herself at the plate going 1/3 with an RBI double in the 4th

Paige Caraway was 1 for 2 and added to her RBI count with her single in the 4th.  Anna Henderson 2/3

Lady Bulldogs Battle
Andalusia over Kinston; 3-1
Last year the Kinston Lady Bulldogs went through the 1A State Tournament on fire to claim the Crown over Pleasant Home.  This season Kinston is on a track to defend their title and hoped to start their season with a big win over 4A Andalusia. 

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs had Ace Morgen Battey on the mound and over powered the 1A team giving up 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 5.

The two teams went through the first three innings scoreless until Kinston pushed a run across in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.  Andalusia came back with Brittney Pitts, Jessica Centner and Halie Burnette all posting RBIs as Andalusia scored three runs in the fourth to pick up their fifth of the season.

Pitts was three of three from the plate and Andalusia looks to this weekend's tournament and preparing for upcoming area play. 


Lady Bulldogs fall to 6A Enterprise

Paige Caraway gave up 9 hits and allowed 4 earned runs as the Lady Bulldogs continue to prepare for their weekend tournament and upcoming Area play.  The Bulldogs lost to another larger classification school in 6A Enterprise as the Wildcats defeated Andalusia 7-2. 

Brittney Pitts went 2 for 4 at the plate and Katie Bass up'd her RBI count driving in a run going 1 for 2.  Morgen Battey took a break from the mount and picked up at the plate also going 2 for 4.

The Lady Bulldogs take on 1A power Kinston Thursday with only the varsity playing at 4:00 PM. 

The Junior Varsity also fell to Enterprise 5-0.


St. Paul's wins Trojan Classic

Andalusia was 2-2 over the weekend in the Trojan Classic with both losses to 5A St. Paul's of Mobile.  Andalusia started with a 7-2 win over Stanhope Elmore, but lost to St. Paul's 7-2.  The Lady Bulldogs kept winning to advance with a 5-4 win over host Charles Henderson 5-4, before falling to St. Paul's for the second time 4-2.  Andalusia improved their record against 5A schools to 4-2.

Lady Bulldogs keep rolling

The Andalusia Junior Varsity Lady Bulldogs got another win and moved to 2-0 on the season.  The JV squad defeated Charles Henderson 9-4.   The Varsity and Junior Varsity could be building energy off each other.  The varsity Lady Bulldogs continued the trend and won 2-0, also over the Lady Trojans from Troy.  The varsity squad almost double the JV winning 17-6 with Morgen Battey picking up the win coming into the game in relief.  Battey worked 3 2/3 inning to post a personal 2-0 record as well. 

The Bulldogs got plenty of run support late which means lots of hits in the game.  Battey supported herself in the cause with three hits and three RBIs (3/5).  Anna Henderson went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, Paige Caraway 2-5 with 3 RBIs and AC Riley and Halie Burnette each hat 3 hits in 4 tries. 

The Varsity squad picks up intensity this weekend in the Trojan Classic taking on Stanhope Elmore Friday at 6:30 and on Saturday plays 5A St. Paul's at 8:30.


Lady Bulldogs start with win

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs started the 2007-2008 season the same way as last season - winning.  Last year the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 start.

Morgen Battey got the start and the win with an 8-0 shutout of Greenville.  The senior had 10 strike outs, allowing three hits and one walk in the Bulldogs win. 

Freshman Paige Caraway had two RBIs in the game and went 2-4 at the plate. 

The Junior Varsity picked up a win as well defeating Greenville 8-4.

Andalusia travels to Charles Henderson to face the Lady Trojans. 

Bulldogs setting season early

Coach Wayne Sasser has put together a schedule that includes 6A competition from Enterprise and Charles Henderson as well as a team from Tennessee visiting to take on the Lady Bulldogs.

Six seniors return including Holley Bass and Morgan Battey who should help steer the 2008 Bulldogs into the playoffs.
