Andalusia wins first round Area Contest
The Andalusia Bulldogs will face Hillcrest-Evergreen
on Monday Night after defeating W.S. Neal 62-41 on Friday evening.
Hillcrest defeated TR Miller 51-33 in the first game setting up
Monday's show down.
Andalusia has split the regular season with Hillcrest winning one
contest by four points (46-42) and falling in the a close three
point contest (44-41).
Nico Johnson led Andalusia with 20 points in the Bulldogs win over
the Eagles. O’Brien Curry added 10.

It's not a repeat headline, but a repeat of the ending score as the #2 ranked
Andalusia squad soundly defeated their 4A county rival Bobcats. The game
was relatively close in the first quarter even with Opp missing four players....

The Bulldogs swept the Bobcats in Opp as
the Lady Bulldogs surprised the 4A #5 Lady Bobcats winning by
three. Andalusia had little trouble in the boys matches

Bulldogs split with Hillcrest
The Bulldogs split with Hillcrest as the Lady Bulldogs fall and
the Boys win by four. Coach Dukes from Hillcrest felt his
team "played hard" but were hampered by 20 turnovers during the
game. The Jaquars fall to 1-1 in area play while Andalusia
improved to 2-0.
Bulldogs win 70-66 - "Oh-ver-time"
(Lady Bulldogs fall 36-28)
Andalusia's ending to the 2007 season wasn't as good as the start of
2008 with Brandon Sims scoring 23 points helping the Bulldogs to a
70-66 victory over 6A Dothan. The Bulldogs were knocked out of
the Holiday Classic 74-36 on December 28th, but rebounded for the
win Thursday Night over the Tigers.
Andalusia had to fight for their first win in 2008 after trailing
the first three periods ending the third down by six. The
Bulldogs, who open area play against WS Neal Friday, tied the game
at 59 to end regulation and posted a 70-66 victory to improve their
record to 10-4 on the season.
Nico Johnson followed Sims with 17 points while Jonau Perry led
Dothan with 18 points.
The Lady Tigers, coming off their third place finish in the Red
Level Christmas Tournament weren't as fortunate against the Lady
Tigers. Although off to a quick start the Bulldogs fell behind
at half and couldn't retain their first quarter lead to fall to 6A
Dothan.
Andalusia's Chantavia Lawrence led all scores with 11 points while
Jasmine McGriff led the Lady Tigers with 10.
In Boy's B-Team action, Andalusia secured a 50-41 victory as
Corinthian Sims scored 25 points for the host 'Dogs.
Andalusia will stay at home tonight host the W.S. Neal Eagles in an
area game. The B-Team begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by both varsity
squads.
Lady Bulldogs place third
The Andalusia Lady
Bulldogs rebounded one night after dropping their fifth game of the
season to defeat the host Red Level Lady Tigers 66-26 to pick up the
third place trophy from the 10th Annual Red Level Christmas
Tournament. Andalusia took advantage of their size and with the
Tigers' Lania Paulk on the bench unable to play Red Level had little
support down low. Anjelica White led the Bulldogs with 18 and
Chantavia Lawrence followed with 14 points - nine in the first
quarter.
Keneshia Calloway was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers with 8,
while eighth grader Kiaira Coleman added 5.
Andalusia falls in Red Level and Ozark Tournaments
The Lady Bulldogs faced their toughest
opponent of the season in Brantley (14-0) during the semi-final
round of the 10th Annual Red Level Christmas Tournament.
Brantley's 6'2 center Taronda Randall scored 15 and pulled 16
rebounds to lead the undefeated team to a 45-38 win. The game was
tied at the end of the third period but Andalusia missed too many
rebounds and had several key turnovers in the fourth quarter to
defeat the 1A school. Anjelica White had 14 for the 4A Lady
Bulldogs who fall to 7-5 on the season. Andalusia faces Red Level in
the consolation game.

Eufaula Crushes Bulldogs
Things would not fall the Bulldogs way in the second round of
the Holiday Classic in Ozark, AL as the Eufaula Tigers crushed the
Andalusia Bulldogs 74-36. "We self destructed" Coach Richardson.

Andalusia wins in Classic
4A vs. 6A usually goes to the latter, but the Bulldogs won their
opening contest in the lose one and go home tournament. Sixteen
teams are competing for the championship and Andalusia lives to play
another day defeating Charles Henderson of Troy 44-34.
Neither team took control in the first half as the teams went to the
locker room with the Bulldogs leading 24-21. "We're still making
too many mistakes" said Andalusia coach Richard Robertson.
The Bulldogs Nico Johnson was the leading scorer with 20 points and
dominated the play inside while shutting down 6'6 Derrick Russaw of
the Trojans. Russaw was limited to three points and those were his
teams first points of the game as Robertson's team collapsed on the
senior.
Andalusia ended the third period on a 6-0 run to take a 36-25 lead
into the fourth. Brandon Sims ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs
and put Andalusia ahead 42-28 with 5:40 to play on a fast break but
it was defense the rest of the way as Johnson played his role in
Robertson's scheme - "He got the rebounds and that's his job. We've
got to get everyone knowing their role" stated the veteran coach as
his team improved to 9-3.
The Bulldogs will play Friday (Dec 28) at 6:30 against 5A Eufaula
(7-3). Eufaula defeated Carroll 71-61 in a game played before the
Bulldogs on Wednesday Night. The Tigers won despite shooting 30-77
from the floor and 7-26 from the free throw line. Most of those
misses came early as the Eagles built a 34-20 lead in the first half
before the Tigers mounted their comeback.
Other teams advancing in the "Holiday Classic" were Abbeville and
Ashford. Abbeville defeated Highland Home 64-53 and Ashford
defeated 5A St. Paul's from Mobile 60-49.
The left half of the brackets plays today as Opelika takes on
Wicksburg at 5 PM followed by Bullock County / Enterprise. The 8 PM
game is Robert E. Lee facing Barbour County and Game 4 is Daleville
taking on Huffman.
Bulldogs lose heartbreaker
The Enterprise Wildcats trailed by 17 in the
third quarter but clawed their way back to win their fifth straight
and one shy of the Andalusia record for consecutive tournament
victories in the 41st Annual Invitational held in Andalusia.
Enterprise's Chris Murry hit a three pointer as the horn sounded to
give the Wildcats a 60-59 victory.
Tigers B-Team on Fire - win fifth
(Bulldog Varsity beats Straughn)
The Straughn Tigers B-Team could be the
hottest team in the County as they win their fifth straight
defeating the Andalusia Bulldogs 46-41. Brandon McCarty scored 16
to help the Tigers move to 5-0, while Corinthian Sims scored 27 for
the Bulldogs. Bulldogs varsity teams sweep the Tigers.

Lady Eagles upset Lady Bulldogs
(Andalusia win Varsity and B-team)
For the first in recent memory the
Andalusia Lady Bulldogs have lost back to back years to the Pleasant
Home Lady Eagles. Kelley Garner's Lady Eagles could challenge
another Lady Bulldogs team once area play gets underway with
Brantley watching on the horizon.
Andalusia Lady Bulldogs opened up a close first quarter with a three
point advantage 12-9, but the Eagles defense took control over the
next two quarters allowing only 8 points over the second and third
in an extremley close battle. Pleasant Home took the halftime lead
21-18 and extended the lead to six by the end of the third period
26-20. The fourth quarter almost doubled the scoring output from
both teams as the Eagles win 40-34.
Erin Byrd lead Pleasant Home with 17 points with Ariel Gunter
posting nine.
Varsity Boys
A stunned Andalusia crowd watched as the Pleasant Home Eagles
continued their team dominance over the Bulldogs as the visiting
squad went up 15-12 in the first before retiring to half with a
20-17 lead.
Andalusia changed their approach and shut down the Eagles allowing
only 12 points in the second half to pull out a victory 37-32. Nico
Johnson scored 12 for Andalusia, while Josh Dozier had 16 for
Pleasant Home.
The Andalusia B-Team started the evening with a 38-33 win over the
1A Eagles.
Enterprise take Bulldogs at EOCC
The Enterprise Wildcats played their home opener inside Loly
Gymnasium on the Enterprise-Ozark Community College campus as the
seventh reanked 6A team defeated the 4th ranked Bulldogs 67-61.
It was also a showcase for 8th grader Rhett Harrelson who acounted
for the first Wildcat 11 points. The score was tied at 24 when
Enterprise went on a 9-2 run to take a 33-26 advantage, but the
Bulldogs countered with a 12-2 run and a 38-35 half time lead.
Leslie James accounted for eight points in the run.
The score was tied at 42, but the Wildcats went on a 15-6 run to end
the third quarter with Harrelson accounting for eight points.
The closest Andalusia managed to get was six the rest of the way.
Lady Bulldogs fall to Enterprise
Another close game in the opening of Lolley Gymnasium for the
Enterprise Lady Wildcats who get a 49-42 win over the Lady
Bulldogs. Anjelica White had 14 points in the loss to the Wildcats
who were paced by Lydia Townsend.
