(Lady Bulldogs fall 36-28)

Andalusia's ending to the 2007 season wasn't as good as the start of 2008 with Brandon Sims scoring 23 points helping the Bulldogs to a 70-66 victory over 6A Dothan.  The Bulldogs were knocked out of the Holiday Classic 74-36 on December 28th, but rebounded for the win Thursday Night over the Tigers.

Andalusia had to fight for their first win in 2008 after trailing the first three periods ending the third down by six.  The Bulldogs, who open area play against WS Neal Friday, tied the game at 59 to end regulation and posted a 70-66 victory to improve their record to 10-4 on the season.

Nico Johnson followed Sims with 17 points while Jonau Perry led Dothan with 18 points.

The Lady Tigers, coming off their third place finish in the Red Level Christmas Tournament weren't as fortunate against the Lady Tigers.  Although off to a quick start the Bulldogs fell behind at half and couldn't retain their first quarter lead to fall to 6A Dothan.

Andalusia's Chantavia Lawrence led all scores with 11 points while Jasmine McGriff led the Lady Tigers with 10.

Andalusia faces Red Level in the consolation game.

Andalusia wins in Classic

4A vs. 6A usually goes to the latter, but the Bulldogs won their opening contest in the lose one and go home tournament.  Sixteen teams are competing for the championship and Andalusia lives to play another day defeating Charles Henderson of Troy 44-34.

Neither team took control in the first half as the teams went to the locker room with the Bulldogs leading 24-21.  "We're still making too many mistakes" said Andalusia coach Richard Robertson.

The Bulldogs Nico Johnson was the leading scorer with 20 points and dominated the play inside while shutting down 6'6 Derrick Russaw of the Trojans.  Russaw was limited to three points and those were his teams first points of the game as Robertson's team collapsed on the senior.

Andalusia ended the third period on a 6-0 run to take a 36-25 lead into the fourth.  Brandon Sims ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs and put Andalusia ahead 42-28 with 5:40 to play on a fast break but it was defense the rest of the way as Johnson played his role in Robertson's scheme - "He got the rebounds and that's his job.  We've got to get everyone knowing their role" stated the veteran coach as his team improved to 9-3.

The Bulldogs will play Friday (Dec 28) at 6:30 against 5A Eufaula (7-3).  Eufaula defeated Carroll 71-61 in a game played before the Bulldogs on Wednesday Night.  The Tigers won despite shooting 30-77 from the floor and 7-26 from the free throw line.  Most of those misses came early as the Eagles built a 34-20 lead in the first half before the Tigers mounted their comeback.

Other teams advancing in the "Holiday Classic" were Abbeville and Ashford.  Abbeville defeated Highland Home 64-53 and Ashford defeated 5A St. Paul's from Mobile 60-49.

The left half of the brackets plays today as Opelika takes on Wicksburg at 5 PM followed by Bullock County / Enterprise.  The 8 PM game is Robert E. Lee facing Barbour County and Game 4 is Daleville taking on Huffman.

Bulldogs lose heartbreaker
The Enterprise Wildcats trailed by 17 in the third quarter but clawed their way back to win their fifth straight and one shy of the Andalusia record for consecutive tournament victories in the 41st Annual Invitational held in Andalusia.  Enterprise's Chris Murry hit a three pointer as the horn sounded to give the Wildcats a 60-59 victory.

Tigers B-Team on Fire - win fifth
(Bulldog Varsity beats Straughn)

The Straughn Tigers B-Team could be the hottest team in the County as they win their fifth straight defeating the Andalusia Bulldogs 46-41.  Brandon McCarty scored 16 to help the Tigers move to 5-0, while Corinthian Sims scored 27 for the Bulldogs.  Bulldogs varsity teams sweep the Tigers.

Lady Eagles upset Lady Bulldogs

(Andalusia win Varsity and B-team)

For the first in recent memory the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs have lost back to back years to the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles.  Kelley Garner's Lady Eagles could challenge another Lady Bulldogs team once area play gets underway with Brantley watching on the horizon.

Andalusia Lady Bulldogs opened up a close first quarter with a three point advantage 12-9, but the Eagles defense  took control over the next two quarters allowing only 8 points over the second and third in an extremley close battle.  Pleasant Home took the halftime lead 21-18 and extended the lead to six by the end of the third period 26-20.  The fourth quarter almost doubled the scoring output from both teams as the Eagles win 40-34.

Erin Byrd lead Pleasant Home with 17 points with Ariel Gunter posting nine.

Varsity Boys

A stunned Andalusia crowd watched as the Pleasant Home Eagles continued their team dominance over the Bulldogs as the visiting squad went up 15-12 in the first before retiring to half with a 20-17 lead.

Andalusia changed their approach and shut down the Eagles allowing only 12 points in the second half to pull out a victory 37-32.  Nico Johnson scored 12 for Andalusia, while Josh Dozier had 16 for Pleasant Home.

The Andalusia B-Team started the evening with a 38-33 win over the 1A Eagles.

Enterprise take Bulldogs at EOCC

The Enterprise Wildcats played their home opener inside Loly Gymnasium on the Enterprise-Ozark Community College campus as the seventh reanked 6A team defeated the 4th ranked Bulldogs 67-61.

It was also a showcase for 8th grader Rhett Harrelson who acounted for the first Wildcat 11 points.  The score was tied at 24 when Enterprise went on a 9-2 run to take a 33-26 advantage, but the Bulldogs countered with a 12-2 run and a 38-35 half time lead.
Leslie James accounted for eight points in the run.
The score was tied at 42, but the Wildcats went on a 15-6 run to end the third quarter with Harrelson accounting for eight points.
The closest Andalusia managed to get was six the rest of the way.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Enterprise
