Sub State 1st Round Game 1 =
Thomasville 1 Opp 0

Last Tuesday Opp (12-21) made the two hour plus drive to Thomasville to play in the first round of the sub state playoffs. This would be Opp's first trip to the sub state round of the playoffs since 2004. The Lady Bobcats came into the first game ready to play and up to the challenge. After going 1 2 3 in the top of the first the Lady Bobcats allowed just one hit by Thomasville in the bottom of the first inning as Sydney Jones retired the next three batters to end the first inning. In the top of the second Adrianne Ellison singled to start the inning but Thomasville would retire the next three batters to end the inning leaving Ellison stranded on second base. Jones would strikeout the side in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third inning Joi Rhymes reached base with two outs but would be stranded to end the inning. A pivotal play came in the top of the fourth inning when Andrea Edwards singled to left field. Adrianne Ellison would be waved around from second to score but would be tagged out at home for the final out of the top of the fourth inning leaving the game scoreless at 0-0. It looked as if Opp might give a run in the bottom of the fourth as an error in the outfield allowed a runner for the Lady Tigers. It would not hurt the Lady Cats as they would retire the next two batters to leave the game scoreless heading to the fifth. Opp and Thomasville would retire the batters in order in the fifth and sixth innings as the scoreless pitchers dual reached the seventh inning with neither team able to push across a run. Opp would go down in order in the top of the seventh inning. Thomasville then came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and Opp would retire the first two batters with ease. With two outs and nobody on Sydney Jones hit the next batter putting a runner at first. After Thomasville put in a pinch runner the final batter of the game stepped up to the plate. A sharply hit ground ball went in between shortstop and third base all the way to the left field fence. The Lady Tiger runner from first came all the way around to score the game's only run giving Thomasville the win 1-0 on the final at bat. The Lady Bobcats were led by Joi Rhymes and Adrianne Ellison who both went 1 for 3 at the plate both reaching base twice on singles and Thomasville errors. Andrea Edwards and Courtney Mobley each had hits for Opp as well. On the mound Sydney Jones went the distance pitching a magnificent game sitting down 15 consecutive Lady Tiger batters at one point. Jones gave up just 1 run on just 2 hits with 1 walk, 1 hit batter, and 6 strikeouts.

Sub State 1st Round Game 2 =
Thomasville 5 Opp 1

Opp (12-22) took the field for game two against Thomasville needing to win two straight to advance to the next round. Not letting the heartbreaking loss from game one affect them they took to the field to start game two. Thomasville would strike first in the top of the first. A walk led off the game followed by two base hits and two more walks put the Lady Tigers up 3-0 with Opp coming to bat. Opp looked to answer back in the bottom of the first when Joi Rhymes tripled to start the inning. She would be stranded at third as the Lady Tigers retired the next three batters in order to end the inning and the Opp threat. Opp would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Andrea Edwards singled to lead off the inning and she would score on a Courtney Mobley base hit later in the inning putting Opp on the scoreboard and cutting into the Thomasville lead at 3-1. After both teams went down in order in the third Opp looked to get on the scoreboard again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Courtney Mobley doubled to lead off the inning but would be stranded at second base as Thomasville would retire the next three batters to turn Opp away for the second time in the game. After a scoreless fifth inning Thomasville looked to put the game away in the sixth. The Lady Tigers led off the inning with a double and after a Lady Bobcat error they would score two more runs in the inning putting them ahead 5-1 after six innings of play. With only three outs left Opp had one last chance in the bottom of the seventh. The inning would go quickly as Thomasville retired Opp 1 2 3 to win the game by the score of 5-1 and the Lady Bobcat's season. The Lady Bobcats were led by Courtney Mobley who went 2 for 3 at the plate with a single, a double, and an RBI. Andrea Edwards went 1 for 3 scoring the lone Lady Bobcat run. On the mound Joi Rhyme started the game going 1 inning giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. Sydney Jones went the rest of the way going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with a walk, 2 hit batters, and 2 strikeouts.

New Brockton 7 Opp 4

Last Saturday Opp (10-18) took on New Brockton in the Elba tournament. The format for Saturday's games was single elimination. Hannah Cooke led off the game with a base hit for Opp. Cooke would advance to as far as second base but would be left stranded as New Brockton retired the next three batters to end the Bobcat threat. Sending up all nine batters New Brockton got five runs in the process to take a 5-0 lead after just one inning of play. Three walks and a base hit in the bottom of the third inning accounted for two more Lady Gamecock runs as New Brockton would open up its lead to 7-0 after three innings. Opp would respond back in the top of the fourth inning. Adrianne Ellison got Opp started as she reached on a New Brockton error. Alli Colquett walked and then Opp got on the board as Joi Rhymes got a base hit to right field scoring Ellison from second base. An error by New Brockton allowed Courtney Mobley to reach base and for Opp to score two more runs. Hannah Cooke would round out the base hitting scoring another run as Opp cut the Lady Gamecock lead to 7-4 after four innings. With time running out in a timed tournament game Opp would have one last chance in the top of the fifth inning. New Brockton would shut the door striking out the first two Lady Bobcat batters of the inning and then getting the final out on a ground ball to second base to end the game.

New Brockton got the win 7-4 to advance in the tournament. The Lady Bobcats were led by Hannah Cooke who went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 base hits and an RBI. Joi Rhymes went 1 for 1 reaching base twice on a hit and a hit by pitch along with a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored. Softball Varsity Girls = Elba 6 Opp 3

For their second game last Friday night Opp (10-17) took on the host team Elba Lady Tigers. The Lady Bobcats would come out scoring to start the game. In the top of the first inning Opp got on the board as Hannah Cooke was hit by the first pitch of the game. Sierra Thorn would single to left field putting two runners on for Adrianne Ellison. Ellison would drive the ball deep to left center field scoring both Cooke and Thorn to give Opp a 2-0. After an Andrea Edwards base hit the game would be 3-0 as Ellison came around to score. Opp took a 3-0 lead before Elba even came up to bat. The Lady Tigers led off the bottom of the first with a walk and they would turn that into two runs after two Lady Bobcat errors as Elba cut into the Opp lead at 3-2 after one inning of play. Opp threatened in the top of the second with two runners aboard and two outs but neither would score as Elba got the final out to end the threat. Elba would take advantage of another Opp error in the bottom of the third inning scoring two more runs in the process to take the lead at 4-3 after three innings. Opp's fourth error of the game opened the door for Elba in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers would score another run on a single after the error to extend their lead to 5-3 after four innings of play. After a quiet fifth inning Elba would score their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Back to back singles to start the inning would result in another run on a third single with one out to give Elba a 6-3 after six innings of play. With only three outs to work with Opp tried to make a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. Courtney Mobley started off the inning with a base hit and after a stolen base was at second base with no outs. Elba would get the next three batters to end the game and pick up the win 6-3. The Lady Bobcats were led by Courtney Mobley who went 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and a stolen base.
