Opp wins two of three in Andalusia Tournament

After an opening day, 66-47 win over Pleasant Home, the Cats fell to the host Bulldogs 54-46 despite leading most of the way. Intense pressure in the backcourt force Opp into floor mistakes and Andalusia capitalized by going inside to Nico Johnson. The strategy erased a six point Bobcat lead and late free throws were converted by the Dogs. Another factor was Andy's ability to shut down Rhett Barnes. He scored 14 of Opp's 20 first half points but Coach Richard Robertson played a gimmick defense geared to stop the senior guard and it worked. Barnes was held to two in the second half.

Opp downed the Elba Tigers in Saturday's consolation game. Elba had been blasted in the other semi-final matchup from Friday night. They fell hard to the Enterprise Wildcats. (90-47) Opp jumped on the Tigers and led 17-9 after one quarter and never trailed. Elba cut it to five on one occasion in the fourth quarter but Opp held on. Junior forward Donald Jones led Opp with 17 while Rhett Barnes added 16. Gavin Repress led the Tigers with nine.
