SPRING FOOTBALL
Opp WINS
Black & Gold

The Opp Bobcats held their spring Black and Gold Friday Night with a final score 28-26.  The winner, Coach Whigham!  What a difference a year makes.  The Bobcats played more aggressive and the defense for both the Black and the Gold made solid plays and tackles through the 53 degree temperature.

The heat for the evening was 8th grader Quadir Kincaid who showcased some break away speed and put forth notice that region teams may grow tired of hearing his name on the loud speaker.  Kincaid had two long runs on the evening, including a 57 yard dash for a second half TD.

Incoming senior Cody Hall played quarterback on both sides with the first team offenses and the receivers made several individual efforts, but a wide open touchdown pass in the fourth quarter brought the Black team back.

"We now have 5 months to get bigger and stronger" Coach Whigham told his players  "Last year we missed some breaks - but we are more sure of ourselves".   Coach Whigham told Program23 after the game - "we are tackling better, moving side to side, and our strength has improved".  "We could win 3 or 4 this next year and if we get some confidence for our senior class through the season.... "  a big pause from the second year coach of the Bobcats.

In all the Bobcats had 84 players on the field for their Spring game - that is a great improvement over the 56 that finished the season.  Things are looking up for the Bobcats - who are building their middle school program, junior high and varsity.  Next season could be an exciting time for Bobcat fans - who could possible see a playoff game of their own in 2007.

2007 PREVIEW

The Opp Bobcats have a bright future, but how bright?  The last two season the Bobcats are 2-18 following a 7-5 season three years ago.  The Bobcats lost in the second round of the playoffs that season (2004), but Coach Jack Whigham hopes to build a continuing tradition with high expectations.  Will they get there next season?  Let's take a look ahead at the 2007 season before the spring for an early peak.

 2007 Early View

The Opp Bobcats ended the season in a thrilling 3 OT loss to the Elba Tigers to close out the 2006 season 1-9.  Although a tough season - the Bobcats had an opportunity to win every game with exception of possible Andalusia contest.

These young Bobcats with only 10 seniors have 43 underclassmen returning with possible additions from individuals roaming the halls of Opp High School..

Next year should be an exciting year for Opp -- Look for the Bobcats to return to post season play and possible host a first round match up.
