Florala Kicks Off Competition
Watch Florala's Routine
The
Florala Wildcat Cheerleaders are traveling to the Alabama High
School Athletic Association State Cheer Competition this weekend
with hopes of a championship. "We feel good about our
chances this year" said Coach Joi Colvin. "We finished as
runner up in 2004 and 2005 with many of the seniors on this
year's team."
The Wildcats also placed second in the Peanut Festival
competition held early this year and have will compete in
Nationals on December 28th after qualifying from a regional
event.
"We should do well with eight seniors, as long as we don't fall"
state Colvin. Senior Emily Evans finished first in the
individual jump competition at the Dothan event while teammate
Tayaka Davis finished third. Evans also won the overall
individual trophy.
"We are real excited about our chances this year at State and
National. Although at State we will compete against 1A
schools the National event is an open competition against all
schools" said Colvin.
Florala is the only team from Covington County represented at
State this year.
Football Season Ends - Time for
Basketball
The Florala Wildcats ended the
football season in a familiar place - Maplesville - as the Red
Devils defeated the Wildcats during the playoffs to send the
Wildcats into the Basketball Season.
This years team should have 8
seniors on the squad, but will likely miss the play of Zouchrain
Vickers who transferred to Paxton, Florida.
