Regular Season - Tigers Done
Although the schedule didn't show it, the Red Level Tigers closed
out the season yesterday with a Panther split. The Tigers
finished the season 21-7 after winning the first game with Georgiana
11-2. Although dropping the second 5-9; Red Level will face
Houston Academy on April 24th. Houston Academy is coached by
former MLB player Mike Mordecai and has a World Series ring with the
'95 Atlanta Braves.
RED LEVEL
DROPS TWO
Red Level played a three-team double header in Hartford over the
weekend and could have felt the effects of a lingering Friday the
13th.
The Tigers dropped the first of two to #9 G.W. Long 15 to 5.
The score was close through four, but the Rebels got things running
in the 5th and ended the game in the 6th - as walks and errors put
an end to Red Level.
The Tigers didn't get a break in the second game - facing #10 Geneva
County. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead, but Red Level scored four runs
on three homers. Devin Maloy and Mathew Bond followed Shane
Turners lead in going deep, but late inning errors - or left over
"Friday 13th" jitters were again costly for the Tigers - falling
11-4.

The Red L evel
Lady Tigers are nearing the end of another season of fast pitch
softball with very little to celebrate about. At this point in the
season there is really nothing to loose, but the Lady Tigers showed
something they haven't all season, heart.
All teams have their share of problems on and off the field and the
Lady Tigers are no exception, but they have managed at times to try
and pull it together even when all seems lost. Monday's game against
Highland Home started off like previous games, early runs - combined
with infield errors put the Lady Tigers behind quickly. A smart move
in the Lady Tiger's camp by bringing in some JV players, who showed
they don't give up that easily, helped in pepping up the team and
bringin g
in some runs was a way to say, "it's not over just yet."
Attitudes started to change in the Lady Tigers, Highland Home was
showing signs of a break down, and the Flying Squadron's coaches
were getting extremely furious. In the end the Lady Tigers came away
with another loss on paper, but they showed signs of improvement in
working together as a team. They made a statement in this game that
a girl's job is never done. A glimmer of hope goes a long way.
Red Level wins area
Red Level won an area Game over Goshen Monday night 4 to 1.
The game started quickly for both teams. In the Tigers top of
the 1st, the Shane Turner drawing a walk, Andrew Odom hit a deep fly
to center field that allowed the speedy Turner to put Red Level
ahead 1 to 0.

In the bottom of the first, the Tigers' Cale Nolen set the first
batter down with a K, but gave up a line drive over the shortstop's
head. The third batter would fly out to center field for the
second out, but a fielding error on a shallow fly would score
Goshen's only run of the game.
In the third inning with the game tied, Jonathon Griggs lead off
with a hit up the middle, Cale Nolen reached on an error by Goshen's
third baseman sending Griggs all the way to 3rd allowing Andrew Odom
to bring Griggs home for the second time of the game - giving Red
Level a 2 to 1 lead.
Goshen would threaten in the bottom of the 6th, as Nolen begin to
run out of steam. Although Nolen K'O the 1st batter and
retired the third on a routine fly - Goshen's patience at the
plate allowed them to load the bases on three walks. Red Level
went to the bull pen and brought in Jonathon Griggs who performed
flawlessly in a pressure situation, striking out the next batter to
get out of the inning.
Red Level had only managed 2 hits through 6 innings, but equaled
that and added one for good measure in the seventh as the Tigers get
3 hits and score 2 runs. Dustin
Barnes
would single and pinch runner Blake Pate would steal 2nd, Tyler
Sharp drew a walk, Griggs lined a shot up the middle to bring in
both runners.
Griggs had an outstanding evening and performance - pitching the 7th
inning and adding two more K's to record the save and preserve the
win for the Tigers. Red Level would also be lead at the plate
by Jonathon Griggs who went 2 -4 with 2 RBIs. Cale Nolen,
Dustin Barnes, Tyler Sharp would each get 1 hit a piece and Andrew
Odom finished up with 2 RBI's bringing in the 1st two runs for Red
Level.
Cale Nolen got the win - 5 2/3 inn, 4 H, 6 BB, 6 K'O
Jonathon Griggs got the save - 1 1/3 inn, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K'O

Tigers drop double header
(correspondent) Win eight in a row -
lose one. Win eight in a row - lose two. Hopefully this
isn't a pattern that the Red Level Tigers will follow over the next
eleven games. But this past Saturday, Leroy showed Red Level
why they are ranked #2 in 2A. The Bears drilled the Tigers by
10 run rules in both games, and Red Level could have played their
worst 2 game's of the season. -

Red
Level move to 13-1
Red Level traveled to Pleasant Home Friday Night and moved to 13-1 for the
season.
The Tigers scattered 14 hits in the 12-0 win called after the fifth
inning. The Eagles managed only 1 hit as Cale Nolen and Jonathon
Griggs combined in the shutout victory. Griggs also led the Tigers
with 3 hits in 4 trips while Nolen and Andrew Odom each had a couple hits.
Shane Turner, Devin Maloy, Kyle Nolen, Charlie Gordon, Tyler Sharp, Taylor
Wright, Mathew Bond each had 1 hit
On the mound - Cale Nolen 3 innings 1H, 4k'o, 2BB, 0R now 5 -1 on the
season
Jonathon Griggs 2 innings 0H, 2k'o, 0BB, 0R
Pleasant Home found their Friday Night Lights drama hitting closer to home
- than they wanted - leaving The Eagles' weekend anything but "Pleasant".
The Tigers pulled out the heavy hitters, fast runners, base stealers, JV
players late in the game, and some smiles at bat.
Will the polls give up some room closer to the top or will the lack of
respect continue? Time will tell the story as Monday brings on a Tiger
vs. Tiger match-up against McKenzie...

Red Level
The R ed
Level JV girls showed that when they get mad they can come back with a
power surge to put runs on the board, unfortunately as with Monday's game
against Luverne Tuesday's proved sometimes a late surge is basically just
too late. The JV Tigers added 6 runs to cause minor damage to the Flying
Squadron's protective armor, but too little to late as the JV Tigers fall
19-7. This brings the JV Lady Tigers to 2-3 and shows that if they
can tidy up on the defense in the infield they can turn things back
around.
The Lady Tigers lost another game and haven't
been listening to much Lenny Kravitz between games. The old standard
"It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over" hasn't carried much of a tune for the team
as Highland Home rolled to a 15-0 win. Red Level can't seem to g et
the breaks when needed and need to fight through this slump to roll out on
top.
The Boys Junior Varsity split a double header
with the Luverne Tigers. Luverne won game one 5-0, but Red Level won
5-4 in the night cap.

Another Streak?
Putting the Opp lose behind
them
the Tigers played their 1st area game against the Flying Squadron.
Highland Home was looked to capitalize on a team that hadn't lost all
year and many were uncertain about their return to the diamond after
last Friday's controversial lose in Opp.
It didn't take long for the
Tiger faithful to put the past in the past as Red Level captured an
impressive 10-0 victory. Andrew Odom led Red Level at the plate
driving in 3 runs going 3-4 with the stick. Sophomore Cale Nolen
added 2 hits and an RBI as the Tigers improved to 9-1 on the season
before traveling to Straughn on Friday for the County Tournament.
Kyle Nolen was 2-3 with an RBI and Shane Turner, Jonathon Griggs, Devin
Maloy, Tyler Sharpe all had 1 hit each.
The winning pitcher was
Jonathon Griggs who went all 6 innings - striking out 5 on 2 Hits.
A complete game shutout with one base on balls.

The Red Level Tigers who managed 8
straight before falling Friday night
on a game ending fielders choice look to rebound on Monday against the
Brantley Bulldogs. Cale Nolen pitched the entire game giving up 5
runs on 8 hits. The Tigers committed 4 errors through the game

Banner year for
Tigers Red Level
moves to 7-0 on the season after a two game roll with Excel.
 GAME 1
Red Level 6 Excel 5
Excel started game one with their bats on fire going ahead 5-0, then Red
Level's begin to warm up the wood - chipping away at Excel's lead until
the Tigers tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning. Red
Level's pitching and defense had been strong since the end of the 3rd
inning not allowing an Excel hit in the last 4 at bats and came through
again in the top of the 7th shutting down Excel. Red Level had the
last at bat for a chance to win the game as Shane Turner ripped an
opening single followed by Jonathon Griggs' single to put runners at 1st
and 3rd with no outs. Sophomore Cale Nolen singled in the winning
run giving Red Level a 6 to 5 victory over Excel. Nolen also led
Red Level at the plate going 3-4, Shane Turner 2-3 and Mathew Bond 2-2.
The winning pitcher was Cale Nolen, although giving up an early 5-0 lead
- pitching a complete 7 innings with 5 K'O, 2 BB.
Nolen is 3-0 on the season.
GAME 2
Red Level 10 Excel 7
Red Level didn't learn a lot after the first game - allowing Excel to
take an early lead and going out to a quick 2-0 advantage. Excel
saw their lead dwindle again as Red Level tied it up - 2-2 in the
bottom of the 3rd. Excel scored 3 runs to increase their lead to
5-2, yet again Red Level's bats came through. Much like they have
all year, Red Level added run support for their pitchers and tied the
game again 5-5. The last 3 innings Red Level would outscore Excel 5 to 2
and win their 2nd game of the day by a final score 10 to 7.
Red Level was led at the plate by Shane Turner 3-4, Cale Nolen 3-4,
Dustin Barnes was 2-4. Jonathon Griggs was the winning pitcher, he
pitched a great game keeping Excel off balance inducing numerous
grounders. Griggs went 6 innings 2 K'O and 1 BB, Shane Turner came in to
pitch the 7th and recorded the save going 1 inning with 1 K'O.
Hot like fire
Red Level moved to 5-0 with a Monday win over
McKenzie. Charlie Gordon got the win pitching the shutout over
five innings as the Tigers win 15-0. Red Level plays their first
area game Thursday against Georgiana.
Tiger Champs Red Level advanced their record to
4-0 after
winning the Excel Invitational Championship over the weekend.
The
Tigers are off to an impressive start to the 2006-2007 baseball
campaign. Red Level defeated Monroe County in extra innings
(12-11), Blacksher 11-1, and faced Excel in the Championship round.
Red Level wins the championship game over
Excel 7 to 6 moving the Tigers to an impressive record of 4-0.
The win is even sweeter for the Red Level Tigers - marking the first
varsity baseball victory over Excel. Excel has dominated the
Tigers in years past. The
game started out as a slug fest with both teams scoring runs early --
all runs were scored by the end of the 4th inning. Beginning with
the 5th inning on the teams settled in for the final three innings in a
pitching duel with neither team scoring a run. Red Level's offense
was led by Tyler Sharpe going 3-4, Kyle Nolen 2-4, and Andrew Odom 1-4,
but what a dramatic one hit - a Home Run.
Cale Nolen was the winning
pitcher - throwing a complete game victory with 11 K'O. Red Level's
Andrew Odom and Shane Turner were named to the All-Tournament team and
Cale Nolen was MVP of the tournament.
Tigers - three
and ooohhhh Red
Level advanced their record to 3-0 after winning 11 to 1 over JU
Blacksher in the first game of a double header at the Excel Invitational
Tournament on Saturday. Shane Turner and Devin Maloy combined on the
pitching duties holding JU Blacksher to 1 run.
Turner went 2 IP, 0 R, 0 BB,
3 strike outs, Maloy followed up with 3 IP, 1R, 4 BB, 4 k'o. Red Level
was led offensively by Turner who went 2-3 with a 3 RBI home run, Cale
Nolen 2-3, Andrew Odom 2-3, Tyler Sharpe 2-2.
Red Level will play Excel later this evening for the championship.
Tigers - Two and
zero Red
Level is 2-0 on the season, but the second victory wasn't quite like the
first. A hard fought game with Monroe County kept both teams
battling back and forth after each half inning. For both teams it
seemed whom ever had the last bat would win. Red Level was the
home team and had that last at bat advantage.
The Tigers were down 11 to 9
in the bottom of the 7th and needed 2 runs to go into extra innings, the
inning started off with Dustin Barnes getting hit by a pitch, Sharpe k'o,
and Turner hit into a fielders choice, R.L had runners on 1st and 2nd
with 2 outs still needing 2 runs to tie, Cale Nolen drew a walk to
loaded the bases for Andrew Odom.
It is the situation every
player from little league to major league dreams about - bases loaded,
your team is trailing, and you get the bat.
The senior responded under
the pressure roping a 2 RBI hit that would send the game into extra
innings. Mathew Bond who had come in to pitch the last out of the 7th
inning was now inline for the win, he pitched a scoreless 8th to give
his Red Level teammates an opportunity to score 1 run for the win. The
Tigers got off to a great start with Devin Maloy getting a base hit,
followed by Barnes getting hit by a pitch again, Tyler Sharpe came up to
the plate and got the game winning hit for the Tigers. Red Level won by
a final score 12 to 11.
Red Level was led in batting by Shane Turner going 3-5, Jonathon Griggs
2-4, Andrew Odom 2-5, Devin Maloy 2-4.
Mathew Bond was the winning pitcher going 1
