Red Level season ends
Red Level's basketball season came to
a end after facing off a very tough opponent, area #1 Luverne. The
Luverne Tigers held a huge size advantage over the Red Level Tigers and in
the end it was the difference as Luverne dominated the boards.
Luverne came out hot and jumped to a 16 to 7 lead after the 1st qtr, but
Red Level hustled back and closed the gap still behind 25 to 20 at the
half. The third quarter started out just like the first - with Luverne
jumping out front and building an 11 point lead, but again the Tigers came
storming back - cutting the Luverne advantage to 3 points. At the
end of the third Red Level trailed 43 to 40.
The 4th quarter started slow with
neither team showing an ability to score and with five minutes remaining
in the game the Tigers cut the lead to 1 point. The remaining game -
Luverne got hot and Red Level only managed six points. The final
score did not show the true hustle of the over matched Red Level Tigers
who left it all on the floor as Luverne moves on into the area
Championship winning 62 to 46.
Red Level top scorers of the night
will all be back next season as Cale Nole scored 23, DJ Sankey and
Terrance Marshall each had 8 points each.

Luverne sweeps the
Tigers
(correspondent to Program23)
Friday Night was a battle of
Tigers as the Red level Tigers took on the Luverne Tigers, In the end it
was Luverne sweeping Red Level in all three contest.
The R.L B-team started the
night off with some great basketball in a game similar to a tennis match
with each team swapping leads "back-and-forth" numerous times. Red
level had a chance to win with 24 seconds left as a loose ball went out of
bounds. Excited fans watched as the closest official signaled R.L
ball but the official away from the ball overruled him and gave the ball
back to Luverne creating a quick foul situation for R.L to try and pull
out a win but in the end it was Luverne winning by a score of 37 to 34.
Varsity Tigers
In the final contest of the night it was the varsity boys turn to try and
break up the sweep, it was no small task as Luverne has a much larger and
taller team which allowed them to control the boards in the previous
contest between these two teams in which Luverne won 63 - 55, tonight's
game would eventually turn out the same with Luverne winning 70 - 61.
The area contest started with
both teams going toe to toe swapping baskets, Princeton Ryce came out on a
tear scoring 8 points in the first quarter - when the final buzzer sounded
after one it was Red level leading 18 - 17. The second quarter started out
better for the Tigers of Red Level as they forced several turnovers and
pulled ahead of Luverne by 13 points with the score at the end of two in
Red Level's favor, 39 - 26.
Half time seemed to work
against Red Level as the start of the third quarter belonged all to the
Tigers of Luverne and the fast pace high pressure defense lead to some
very quick turnovers and easy buckets that erased the thirteen point lead,
by the four minute mark of the 3rd quarter Luverne had tied the game at 39
- 39. Red Level's inability to score the first four minutes of the
third was finally erased as Terrance Marshall's free throw broke the ice
and got some points on the board for Red Level. The host Tigers got
back on track and regrouped, trailing Luverne 45 - 47 at the end of the
third. In the 4th some clutch shooting by Luverne's Fred Hawkins knocking
down 2 straight long range jumpers put Luverne up by 6 and created an
uphill battle the rest of the way as Red Level lost by a final score of
70-61.
The R.L Tigers played a great
game and came out with some great intensity that the fans loved to see.
R.L had 3 players in foul trouble for most of the 2nd half but they gave
it all they had when they were in the game. Red level was led in scoring
by Cale Nolen with 19 points, Followed by DJ Sankey with 13, Princeton
Ryce had 12, Jonathon Griggs had 7 followed by Ray Knight with 6. The
Tigers will be on the road for the remainder of the season.
Red Level vs

The Red Level boys fall to
the Flying Squadron 50-65.
While the girls got back into
the area win column, the boys fell further behind in their region with
their fifth area loss of the year. The Flying Squadron sprinted out
to a 7-0 lead thanks to five straight points by Dallas Arrington and a
driving jumper by Deymond Sankey. It looked like the Tigers might get run
out of their own building, but Red Level fought back with Ray Knight, Cale
Nolen, and D.J. Sankey helping Red Level climb back to within two, 17-19
after one. The Flying Squadron again came out on fire to start the
second, with Randy McGough hitting an NBA range three to start the period.

wide open in the final period, stretching their lead to 59-44 midway
through the fourth quarter. Both teams emptied their benches and Red Level

seconds left, Red Level had possession of the ball and ran the
clock down taking the last shot. Princeton Ryce was fouled and
went to the line with 3 seconds left, Ryce who previously made 2
free throws just moments earlier to tie the game connected on 1 of

Red
Level battles Opp
The
Opp Bobcats won the fourth quarter and fought back a late charge by
the Red Level Tigers to hold on for their second win of the season.
Rhett Barnes hit four 3-point shots and was 10-16 from the free-throw
line to lead the Bobcats with 26 points. Ray Knight countered for the
Tigers scoring 21 with 7 of 9 from "charity". Red Level took an early
lead with speed and defense outscoring the Bobcats 16-9. It could
still be football mentality for the Tigers as they are trying to get
settled into basketball season, but sloppy play and turnovers allowed
the hosting Bobcats an "Opp"ortunity to come back. The Tigers took a
29-25 halftime advantage, but the Bobcats, led by the "downtown"
shooting of Barnes - come back and close the gap at the end of the 3rd
quarter 41-42. Both teams turned the ball over and missed open shots,
but with 4:56 remaining the score was knotted at 46. Red Level briefly
held the lead at 3:34 49-48, but the play of was more consistent and
with less than a minute to play the Bobcats held a 5 point lead. Both
teams battled til the end but the Bobcats closed out a successful
evening winning three out of three. The Bobcats Junior Varsity team
won 51-25, while the Lady Bobcats remained undefeated winning a close
contest 46-41.
