Coach Lori Kinsaul has been working our team and
was excited about their opportunity against the seasoned program at New
Brockton. "They've been playing for almost 15 years. We'll
have to play solid to defeat them on their home court". Coach
Kinsaul's team responded defeating New Brockton in 5 games. Although
dropping the first match 20-25, the Lady Tigers came back to win 25-19.
New Brockton 14-25 victory in the third series only to have Straughn come

Straughn Lady Tigers
begin first Varsity Season
With no seniors or juniors on the varsity team,
the Straughn Lady Tigers are optimistic about their inaugural varsity
season. Head Volleyball Coach Lori Kinsaul is excited about her
young players and gives them a shot at making the state playoffs.
"Last year was our first year with just a junior varsity and junior high
squad" states Kinsaul. "We had a dedicated group of young women
who worked hard and has taken that same enthusiasm
into this season".
The Lady Tigers have been working extremely
hard. During summer workouts the Lady Tigers went to camp at Troy
University in July to compete against Enterprise, Charles Henderson,
Geneva, Providence Christian and other schools. "We worked hard"
added Kinsaul. "I'm so proud of our teams - the varsity finished 4th
and the junior varsity finished 2nd against some quality, established
teams".
Straughn will compete against Elba and Pike
County with the top two teams advancing into the region tournament.
After regional is Sub State, followed by the State Tournament or the Elite
Eight as it is titled. Straughn has a difficult schedule to
strengthen their abilities - playing 4A Andalusia who made the Elite Eight
last season.
The Tigers open the season at New Brockton then
travel to Luverne before their home opener on September 4th, an area game
against the Elba Lady Tigers.
"We've got some young talent - and - I basically
have to run them out of the gym after practice". During our
conversation with Coach Kinsaul the Lady Tigers continued to work around
the net. "It is really exciting to see the dedication and
determination of our team."
Although young, Kinsaul spoke about several
players on varsity and junior varsity including Lakin Thornton,
Kaitlynn Wiggins and Mobile transfer Kayla Messer. "It is really
hard to talk about one individual because everyone has played well and
worked hard for this moment" states Kinsaul in talking about the first
varsity game for Straughn Volleyball.
