Free throws sink Bobcats
The Paxton Bobcats headed into the season with high expectations,
but the came crashing down quickly as the fall in their first
competitive opportunity to 2B Walton Braves, 69-62. "Our guys played
hard and this was a good way for us to gauge ourselves," said head
basketball coach Jeff Bradley.
The Bobcats could easily point to poor free-throw shooting as the
team hit only 8-of-22. Paxton trailed Walton the majority of the
game and never seemed to get in sync early. "We had a few transition
breakdowns, but you've got to give Walton a hand they really played
well and shot lights out."
While Walton "rained" in thirteen three pointers, the Bobcats failed
to work the ball successfully into 6'8 senior Demetrius Moore. Moore
didn't play to his potential in the first half and was non-existent
scoring only two points. "[Moore] struggled some early, but gained
himself in the second half," said Bradley. The senior scored 16
points in the second half to help give his team an opportunity to
tie the game in the final seconds, but the team had only one three
pointer in the fourth quarter, Josh McLaney's lone basket from the
floor. Shaq Jackson, the games leading score with 22, was on the
bench fouled out and Dan Geoghagan was blocked out by the Braves.
Geoghagan ended with 3 threes on the night.
Paxton started hot from outside hitting four three pointers to post
a 19-13 first quarter lead, but it could dwindled when the Bobcats
only managed two points the entire second to trail 28-21 at half.
